Municipal Court Warrants in Ogemaw County
Michigan authorizes only a few municipal courts, and most of the state goes without one. Ogemaw County sits in that majority. The court directories list no city bench anywhere in the county. So no municipal court warrant can be signed here. The work behind it still happens. City officers investigate complaints, write citations, and make arrests. The 82nd District Court then hears the case, sets any fine or bond, and issues a warrant when one follows. A search for a West Branch or Rose City court clerk comes up empty. Point the warrant lookup at the district court instead.
No Ogemaw Municipal Court Exists
Here is the fact that trips people up most. Ogemaw County's courts are the 34th Judicial Circuit Court, the 82nd Judicial District Court, the Probate and Family Court, and the Friend of the Court. No city in Ogemaw County runs its own. That covers both cities. District courts across Michigan hear city ordinance violations, misdemeanors, and traffic and civil infractions. They also handle arraignments, bail, and the early stages of felony cases. MCL 600.8311 hands the district court that ordinance jurisdiction. That is how a city ticket becomes a county court case. The redirect is routine. Callers asking for a city court clerk get sent to the district court line at 989-345-5040. Note: The city name can still appear on a case as the complainant or the location even though no city court exists.
Which Cities Have Municipal Courts
Neither of the county's two incorporated cities has a municipal court. The Ogemaw County directory lists only West Branch and Rose City. The table below shows how a city-originated case is handled in each place.
| Place | City Police Department | Court That Hears City Cases |
|---|---|---|
| West Branch (population 2,351) | West Branch Police Department, 130 Page Street | 82nd Judicial District Court, Room 206, West Branch |
| Rose City (population 577) | Rose City Police Department, city hall contact | 82nd Judicial District Court, Room 206, West Branch |
| Prescott (village, population 217) | No city department; county sheriff coverage | 82nd Judicial District Court, or the 34th Circuit Court if the case is bound over |
The county cities directory shows just two. It also confirms that Whittemore is not an Ogemaw County place at all, since that city sits in Iosco County.
Where Ogemaw City Ordinance Warrants Go
A city complaint in Ogemaw County follows a short path. An officer writes it. The city department forwards the citation, and the district court docket carries the case from there. If the person does not respond or appear, the district judge can issue a bench warrant. The sheriff or a city officer serves it.
Warrant flow: City police complaint › 82nd District Court docket › Hearing, fine, or bond › Bench warrant if the case is ignored › Service by the Sheriff or city police › Return filed with the court
None of this flow touches a city court. No Ogemaw County city office can recall a warrant once the judge signs it.
How to Check a Municipal Court Warrant
No city court takes the call. An Ogemaw County warrant check runs through county channels instead, and each one answers a different question, so work down the list.
- Find the citation or complaint and note the city department, the date, and any case or ticket number.
- Search MiCOURT under the 82nd District Court for Ogemaw County.
- Call the district court at 989-345-5040 and ask whether the case has an active warrant or a pending date.
- Call the city department that wrote the complaint if the court record does not answer the question.
- Use the Sheriff's Office at 989-345-3111 for service questions, and the jail at 989-345-5908 for custody or bond.
Want a written record? The Sheriff's FOIA request form is the Ogemaw County route, and each city posts its own form for records it holds.
Checking Ogemaw City Cases for Warrants
MiCOURT asks for a court before it asks for a name. City cases get lost right there. No city selector exists. Choose the 82nd District Court, or the 34th Circuit Court if the Ogemaw County case was bound over.
| Field | What to Enter | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Court selection | 82nd District Court, Ogemaw | Choose the circuit court only after a bindover |
| Last name or business | Required | The search will not run without it |
| First and middle name | Optional | Use them to narrow a common name |
| Birth year | Optional | Full dates of birth are not public search fields |
| Case number | Year, number, and type | The fastest route when a ticket shows a case number |
A city name is not a court selection. In Ogemaw County, a blank result does not prove that nothing is pending.
What a Municipal Court Warrant Shows
This is a district court record. It is not a city file, and the fields below describe what the Ogemaw County record carries and which parts matter first.
| Case Number | The district court's identifier, in a year and sequence shape such as 2024-01234. |
|---|---|
| Originating Agency | The city department that wrote the complaint, such as the West Branch or Rose City police. |
| Charge | The ordinance, traffic, or misdemeanor offense listed on the citation. |
| Issuing Court | The 82nd District Court, or the 34th Circuit Court after bindover. |
| Fine, Fee, or Bond | The amount set in the case, including any default fee. |
| Status | Active, defaulted, paid, recalled, or served, as the docket reads. |
West Branch Police Warrants and Ogemaw Courts
West Branch is the county seat. That makes it easy to mix up one Ogemaw County office with another. City hall handles city business, the police department handles enforcement, and the courts at the County Building handle the cases. Those are three different doors.
West Branch Police Department
130 Page Street
West Branch, MI 48661

Police hours run weekdays, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. A red-box phone outside reaches central dispatch when the lobby is closed. City hall keeps weekday hours from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The city forms page carries a FOIA request form and a parking-ticket waiver form. Neither form is a warrant search. A parking ticket is not a criminal warrant in Ogemaw County either.
The departments page covers the police role. It describes state-law and ordinance enforcement, the work that feeds Ogemaw County district court cases.
Resolving a Municipal Court Warrant
An Ogemaw County warrant that started as a city case is resolved the same way any district court warrant is. The case gets satisfied, or the court changes its order. Someone can pay the fine or fee the court set. They can appear on a new date instead. If custody is part of the picture, posting bond is the step that matters. When the amount is simply out of reach, the court will hear a request for a hearing or a payment plan. Start with a call to the district court, since only that court can recall its own order in Ogemaw County. If an arrest has already happened, work out custody and bond details with the jail, then ask for written confirmation once the case is resolved.
Caution: Paying a city fine through a city office does not always update the court docket, so ask the district court to confirm the warrant status.
Rose City Warrants and Ogemaw Court Routing
Rose City is the smaller of the two Ogemaw County cities, and its short office hours make smart routing matter even more. Enforcement questions go to the police department at 989-685-3051. City hall takes the administrative side at 989-685-2103, with a published fax line at 989-685-3137. Plan any in-person visit around the schedule. The office is open Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and on Tuesday and Thursday it closes at noon, having opened at 8:00 a.m.

A Rose City ordinance case or traffic ticket still lands in the 82nd District Court, so a warrant question put to city hall usually gets referred to West Branch. For the wider Ogemaw County picture, the Ogemaw County warrant records home page lays out the circuit and district court split.
The Rose City about page posts both the city police number and the Ogemaw County Sheriff number, which gives a clean split between a city question and a county service question. Note: For anything urgent, call the Sheriff's Office or 911 rather than leaving a message with a city office.
